Violettes, ancient crafts, traditions, colors and flavors live in the markets of Sicily. One of the oldest markets is the Pescheria. Behind the Cathedral of Catania, in the tunnel of the walls of Charles V, there is the fish market, a little ‘outdoors and a little’ covered. A place where the ritual of the sale of fish, but also of meat and fruit, has been repeated since ancient times under the big red tents and on the white marble counters. The shouts of the vendors, the smoking banquets of the roasted peppers and the tripe sold to passersby, make this place one of the most emblematic of the city, the ideal place to immerse yourself in the popular culture of Catania and remain fascinated.

The other side of Sicily, however, hosts the Vucciria of Palermo: a pleasant mixture of voices, smells and noises; a corner of the city where time seems to have stopped. It is the oldest and most popular market in the city and it extends.

In the historical center of Caltanissetta there is also a street full of colors and scents that projects the visitor or the occasional passer-by in an attractive and suggestive dimension. This is the Via Consultore Benintendi that since the end of the eighteenth century has hosted the historic Mercato Strat’â foglia.

Located in the ancient district of San Rocco, the market is characterized by the presence of some places of historical and artistic interest, such as the eighteenth-century Palazzo Natale Cosentino, formed by two wings joined by a terrace, the secondary entrance of the nineteenth century Palazzo Benintendi , and four votive edicolette, dated between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, among which stands out that of the Holy Family that exhibits a picture painted on glass of popular workmanship.
